It makes it all worthwhile

It's emails like these that make all the work we do worth it. This was in response to giving someone slots at our $10 spay day for cats owned by lower income/hardship families:

"THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!! I am jumping for joy! This is absolutly the best Christmas present ever. Thank you and God Bless. Thank you."

Year End Adoptions

The following kittens were adopted this week:  Hermoine Grainger, Hansel and Gretel (together), Shrimp and Tuna (together), Jessie, and Marnie.

Goodbye 2010 (it's been fun), Hello 2011 (we have big plans for you!)

Thanks to the generosity of our supporters, Alley Cats and Angels helped hundreds of cats and kittens during 2010. As we head into 2011, our plan is simple – help even more cats and work even harder to stop pet overpopulation. How will we do this?  We will continue our focus on feral, stray, and abandoned cats; taking cats into our adoption program and finding them terrific homes; placing at risk feral cats into safe barn/garden homes; practicing trap-neuter-return (TNR) for feral cat; and providing spay/neuter assistance to those that can't afford it through our Alter and Alley Cat Program.

Through our Alter an Alley Cat program, we already have five spay days scheduled for 2011. Those five days alone will spay/neuter and vaccinate almost 140 cats total at very little cost to the owners/caregivers (most of these days are $10 spay days). And more cats will be spayed and neutered through our Alter an Alley Cat low-cost spay/neuter voucher program.

We are blessed to have wonderful volunteers, foster homes, donors and supporters. Without you, this would not be possible and we are so very thankful for all you do for the cats. We hope 2011 holds great things in store for all of you.

Adoptions

Maxamillion and Chunky Monkey were adopted together yesterday by a fantastic family. With three children, I'm not sure if the kittens will keep the kids entertained or if the kids will keep the children entertained!!

Of the "Harry Potter kittens", Harry Potter was adopted Wednesday and Hermoine Grainger was adopted yesterday. Dumbledore has an adoption pending -- one of our previous adopters will be adopting him.

Fantastic adoption weekend

What a great adoption weekend. Eight cats/kittens found homes. The following were adopted: Sunny, Jake Blues, Elwood Blues, Mini, Pumpkin, Charley Girl, Nathan Junior, Helmut, and Slinky. That makes 15 adoptions between last weekend and this weekend. We are thankful for so many wonderful adoptions.

What a great way to wrap up our adoption events for the year. We don't have any more events scheduled for the rest of the year but we have a few adoptions pending that will wrapped up this year.

Updates on a couple of our adopted kitties

It is always so nice to get updates on our adopted cats - especially when they were cats that had been in foster for quite some time before adoption.  Parker was with us for about 1 year and Izzie almost 2 years before adoption.  Parker was about 2 years old when adopted and Izzie about 6 years old.

Below are updates we received this week:

Izzie: Izzie is doing great! Super, in fact. I had a Christmas Open House last Sunday and she was the belle of the ball. Came out and greeted everybody, and let everyone pet her and ooh and aah over her. She was somethin' else! Funny thing - in the waiting room at the vet to get her claws trimmed, there was this great big, huge, overly chubby bull dog looking dog. Her name was Izzie too! Izzie is being so good with the Christmas tree and the gifts underneath - not bothering them at all. She even has a present all wrapped up under there, but she does not know it. Thanks for letting me adopt her - she has really filled a void for me.

Parker sent a Christmas card to his foster mom, it said (we have our suspicions that he had help writing it though!):  Dear Miss Karen, Thank you so much for taking care of me until my Mom could bring me "Home". She takes really good care of me and I want for nothing. I have a half sibling named Duran (he's a turtle). I am still very curious about him, but we co-exist well. Sometimes I get into things that I shouldn't and Mom tells me about it, but I guess I've been a pretty good boy because I get Lots and Lots of Love! Hope you have a Merry Christmas. I know I will!  With much Love, Parker

Finally - Sunny is ready for adoption

If you follow the blog, you may remember reading about Sunny (with a chance!) and her head wound when she was taken into the rescue. Well, Sunny is now healthy as can be and ready for adoption. This stunning beauty has personality galore.

Sunny is an adorable, outgoing and energetic kitten. She has beautiful blue eyes and dark points on her ears, feet and tail. She is full of personality and loves to play. She loves cat toys, especially those crinkly balls that she can toss around and chase after. She's also very affectionate and when she's tired of playing, she will want to curl up in your lap or on the back of your chair. All in all, the perfect kitty to bring home for Christmas!

Weekend Update

Whew....what a busy weekend - we're all still tired!  We had the Santa photo fundraiser on Saturday and Sunday and adoption event Saturday and Sunday.

We sold 54 Santa photos and 7 cats were adopted this weekend.  Of the 7 cats adopted, 3 were adults (over 1 year old).  How cool is that?!  Cats adopted were: Suzie, Charmaine, Rhett and Ashley together, Ashie (adult!), Love Muffin (adult), and Mercy (adult!).

Some of our adoptive parents brought their babies by for Santa photos and Xerox was among them.  Xerox was my foster for quite some time and captured a really big piece of my heart.  I remember getting the email about a small kitten that had been scrounging through garbage for weeks and finally someone caught him in a trap and emailed local rescue groups saying he was in a trap on their front porch, so come and get him as it was going to snow later that day.  That poor little boy was starving and emaciated and sickly when we took him in and because of his health, he took a while to nurse back to good health so it was quite awhile after intake before he could be adopted.  But he is doing great and I was so happy to see him.  He now weighs 9 pounds - chunky little bugger!  I was so happy to see his adoptive mom and Xerox and after talking with her yesterday, it just reinforces the fact that this was THE PERFECT match!  Here's Xerox giving "paws up" approval on having his picture taken with Santa!

Low Cost Spay Day for Cats - January 18th

Alley Cats and Angels is holding a low-cost spay day on Tuesday, January 18th. Thanks to a grant from the ASCPA (www.aspca.org) and generous donations, we are able to offer spay/neuter surgeries and vaccinations (distemper and rabies) for cats for only $10 total per cat.

The spay/neuter surgeries and vaccinations will be done by the SNAP-NC mobile spay/neuter van. The location of the mobile van on the January 18th is still to be determined, but it will most likely be in the Morrisville area.

This spay day is for people who own cats and are in a low/limited income household, on government assistance or are unemployed. Also, if you are feeding stray/feral cats and cannot afford the cost to spay/neuter and vaccinate the cats, please fill out the request form on our website (http://alleycatsandangels.org/neuterform.htm) as we may be also able to help you on the January 18th spay day.

If you qualify for assistance and would like to get your pet cats spayed/neutered and vaccinated on the January 18th spay day, please complete a spay/neuter assistance request form on our website (http://alleycatsandangels.org/neuterform.htm).

Adoption Update

Our many toed boys - Krishna and Rama were adopted TOGETHER this weekend.  This is huge because there are such a bonded pair of siblings.  Always cuddling and washing each other.  I think their new mom loves their toes as much as we do.  These boys both had 24 extra toes (lots of extra claws to clip but they are very good about it).  And unlike some polydactyl cats, they actually had pads to go with each extra toe.

And Beau was adopted.  YAY Beau!!!  Beau is a very exuberant kitty with two speeds: wide open or sacked out.  Fortunately, the sacked out part aligns with typical bedtime so that's good.
